H.K. Edgerton visited the Historic Rosenwald School during Free Hill Homecoming. HK Edgerton has made news as the dark skinned fellow walking around the United States carrying a Confederate Battle Flag. It makes one think, but many think its an oxymoron or he is trying to fit a round peg in a square whole. Edgerton boasts that he is a past president of the NAACP in North Carolina, so does it mean he has changed sides. "Not so" says HK. "I'm A Southerner, many in the south whose heritage is African American feel the same way" however, knowing that flag symbol has been associated with hate groups many feel he has a real big job trying to tame what most still think it means. Mr. Edgerton is supported by the Sons of Confederate Veterans in his efforts to reveal the noble heritage from which it came. He along with his Brother Terry Edgerton travel across the U.S. selling T-shirts, DVDs and reading material that explain the honor and dignity that was earned by Black folks under that flag. Surely a worthy, noble and honorable cause and Free Hill, ironically, seems to be an ideal setting to acknowledge the African-Americans who chose to fight for their rights as honorable Southerners during the Civil War. |
